Our Mission

We strive to honor each individual’s neurology and prioritize connection. We presume competence, value all communication, support self-advocacy, and accommodate sensory needs. We work collaboratively with families and professionals to allow every individual to take their communication to new heights.

Our Approach

Our speech therapy sessions are guided by the child’s interests and built around playful interaction. We model language using principles from Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) to encourage the growth of spontaneous, self-generated communication.

Our Spelling to Communicate sessions focus on coaching motor movements to improve the brain-body disconnect that occurs in apraxic bodies. Individuals will learn and refine the purposeful motor task of pointing to a letter board to communicate.

Our Specialties

We provide neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy with a focus on autistic individuals, AAC users, and Gestalt Language Processors. Our approach is strengths-based, collaborative, and tailored to each communicator’s unique profile.

We support nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals through a motor-based, presumed-competent approach. Using systematic coaching, we guide clients as they build the motor skills needed for purposeful pointing, progressing toward open communication on a letter board or keyboard.

Meet Carey

Owner, SLP

With over 20 years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist, I bring a deep commitment to supporting communication in meaningful, respectful, and empowering ways. After spending most of my career in public education, I transitioned into private practice to provide services that are more individualized, neurodiversity-affirming, and aligned with the unique needs of the clients and families I serve.

I am a certified Spelling to Communicate (S2C) Practitioner and have extensive training in supporting individuals with motor-based communication challenges. With more than 15 years of experience conducting AAC evaluations and providing AAC intervention, I specialize in helping nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals discover reliable, authentic ways to express themselves.

As a Natural Language Acquisition–trained clinician, I have worked closely with gestalt language processors and understand how to support language development through connection, regulation, and meaningful interaction. My approach is strength-based, collaborative, and grounded in presuming competence.

I am dedicated to creating a supportive space where every communicator feels seen, respected, and understood. I work with individuals of all ages and communication profiles, and I am passionate about partnering with families to build skills that enhance independence, confidence, and self-advocacy.

Kind Words

Carey Barbour has been incredible with our son!  She is patient and understands how to work with children with ASD.  I have witnessed very tangible results in my son's ability to communicate.   Giving him the skills to spell has opened up worlds of communication, expression and understanding for him.  I highly recommend Carey to any parents of children with Autism.
