Communication

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all the ways a person can communicate beyond spoken words—such as picture symbols, communication boards, speech-generating devices, sign language, and gesture.

AAC supports individuals who are non-speaking, minimally speaking, or whose speech is not always understood. It doesn’t replace speech; instead, it provides another reliable way to express needs, thoughts, and ideas.

AAC therapy focuses on building meaningful communication through connection, modeling, and real conversations.

Therapy sessions are child-led and rooted in play, routines, and authentic interactions. Clinicians model language on the AAC system, support vocabulary growth, and help the student learn to communicate for many reasons—not just to request.

The goal is functional, joyful communication that empowers the individual to be understood.
